New super-deluxe Queen box set captures the spirit of '75 live

Queen freaks who couldn't quite afford the massive Queen Studio Collection that was released a couple of months ago should know that the legendary British rockers are issuing another box set this Friday (December 18), one that is aimed at fans who adored the band in its mid-'70s, long-hair-on-Mercury heyday.

A Night at the Odeon captures the quartet—singer Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon, and drummer Roger Taylor—live in concert on December 24, 1975, at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. The set's CD, DVD, and Blu-ray feature songs from the band's first four albums—1973's Queen, 1974's Queen 2 and Sheer Heart Attack, and 1975's A Night at the Opera—so you get to hear live renditions of classic tracks like "Now I'm Here", "Killer Queen", "Keep Yourself Alive", and, of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

"Bonus items" on the DVD and Blu-ray include three tracks recorded live at the Budokan in Tokyo in May of '75, as well as a previously unreleased, 22-minute documentary.

Other goodies in A Night at the Odeon are a 60-page hardback book and material from the Queen archive, such as previously unseen photographs and reproductions of the original 1975 tour program, poster, stage pass, itinerary, and concert ticket.

Speaking of concert tickets, according to the Internet, Queen was supposed to play Vancouver in 1975, but the show was cancelled because Mercury had a sore throat.

That's okay, because I saw them in '77 on the Day at the Races Tour.

With Thin freakin' Lizzy opening up!
