Vision Vancouver to revive park board committees

Vision Vancouver park-board chair Raj Hundal told the Straight that he and his caucus have approached general manager Susan Mundick about adding to the board’s lone committee.

“There will most definitely be a finance committee, which is typically the norm,” Hundal told the Straight by phone. “We’re going to have at the bare minimum a second committee.”

Committees create the opportunity for more debate and greater public participation before matters are taken to a vote at the park board. From 2002 to 2005, the COPE–dominated board had three committees: culture and recreation; finance; and planning and environment. In 2006, the NPA–dominated board whittled that down to two, before the finance and planning committees were merged into one general committee in December 2007.
