Known as Canada’s best kitchen party, the Canadian Culinary Championships is the finale to the Gold Medal Plates competition.

Chefs from 11 cities across Canada compete to win a title in their respective regions, before facing-off in a nation-wide finale that will be held in Kelowna’s Grand Okanagan Hotel (1310 Water Street) on February 5 and 6, 2016.

Chef Alex Chen from Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar in Vancouver’s Sutton Place Hotel will be representing the province to vie for the title of Canada’s top chef next month.

Boulevard’s executive chef previously held a position as the executive chef of the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel for six years. He also held roles of senior sous chef at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, and chef de cuisine at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto.

Other notable chefs in the competition include Edmonton’s Jan Trittenbach, and Toronto’s Stuart Cameron.

Competitors will have to battle through three rounds culinary competitions—including creating a dish to pair with a mystery wine.

The venue for the grand finale has been expanded this year, which includes a tented and heated terrace that adds 5,000 square-feet to the competition floor.
