Nat's New York Pizzeria

Description:

It’s important to have a dream, and Nat Bastone had exactly that in high school. Check out the Kits High yearbook shot of him on the fantastically kitsch-laden walls of Nat’s New York Pizzeria on West Broadway. His stated mission in Grade 12 was opening a pizza joint. Along with his cousin Franco Bastone, he’s done exactly that.

In 1991 Nat and Franco made a pilgrimage to Yonkers, New York, to learn a decades-old family recipe for thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizza. And they studied well, which explains the long lineups of by-the-slice Kits students at lunch. Those who stick with the classics can opt for the Margarita ($16 for house-made tomato sauce and special mozzarella) and the Waikiki (ham and pineapple, $18.50). But the Bastone cousins haven’t been afraid to dream big with Nat’s New York Pizzeria offering $22 specialty pizzas like the El Taco (including seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and chives) to the Pizza Bianca (olive oil, broccoli, red peppers, four cheeses, and kalamata olives).
