Vanoc spending leaves many Vancouver buses ad-free
Right now I'm really appreciating that Vanoc spent $17 million to buy up all the ad space on public transit in Vancouver. Were they unable to turn around and sell all of it to official Olympic sponsors? Whatever the reason, many of the buses are blissfully ad-free these days—no goofy cartoon mascots inanely grinning, no white-washed faces pimping patriotic merchandise, no golden arches demanding that I catch any kind of spirit. (By the way, is there a vaccination for that? It's even more infectious than H1N1.)
The buses are practically the only spaces in Vancouver offering respite from the corporate Olympic mania right now. I never thought I'd say it but thanks Vanoc!
