Billy Idol: "Sweet Sixteen"

The story behind this song is that it was inspired by the true tale of Edward Leedskalnin, a Latvian immigrant to the United States. At the age of 26, Leedskalnin was engaged to be married to 16-year-old Agnes Scuffs. To Edward's shock, Agnes called off the wedding just one day before the ceremony was to take place.

Heartbroken, Leedskalnin set about building a tribute to his lost "Sweet Sixteen". He spent 23 years constructing Coral Castle, employing no outside help and using nothing but hand tools. The building has withstood the ravages of time and hurricanes and remains a pilgrimage site for curiosity-seekers.

Why am I posting this today? Edward Leedskalnin was born in Riga, Latvia, exactly 120 years ago, on August 10, 1887.
