Larisa Fayad Remembered

A memorial celebration for local technical director and lighting designer Larisa Fayad will be held on Monday evening (October 22) at the Roundhouse Community Centre, where Fayad was house technician for six years. Fayad, who died at 31 in a September 16 plane crash in Thailand, worked behind the scenes with many Vancouver companies, including Co. Erasga, Kinesis Dance, battery opera, Martha Carter, and Wen Wei Dance. She was also technical director for the Vancouver International Dance Festival and an assistant lighting designer on Vancouver Opera productions.

Family, friends, and colleagues will gather at the Roundhouse starting at 5 p.m., with musical performances and a catered reception starting at 8 p.m. The Larisa Fayad Theatrical Apprenticeship Fund is also being set up to support aspiring technicians and designers. Donations can be sent to the Vancouver International Dance Festival, 339 West Hastings Street (2nd floor), V6B 1H6.
