The Best New Restaurants in Canada*

*Well, as chosen by enRoute.

Congratulations to top-10 finalists:

2. Kingyo Izakaya (Jury comments: "If this were a search for Canada’s most dangerous new restaurant, Kingyo would be a shoo-in. Open flames and sharp twigs are only some of the perils that await”)

3. Salt Tasting Room (“It takes guts to open a restaurant without a kitchen on a street known as blood alley and then decorate it like a prison cafeteria. Salt has guts in spades.”)

In the also-rans, congrats to locals:

Ӣ Chow
Ӣ Fuel
Ӣ Gastropod
Ӣ The Shore Club
Ӣ So.Cial at Le Magasin
Ӣ The Taco Shack

Clearly I don't get out enough. The only one on this list I have actually been to is Gastropod, and then only for dessert and drinks. I can vouch for their desserts, though!

Me neither. I've been to Fuel and again, the deserts were super-yummy but the other food was merely okay.

I mean, not to get all foodie-snooty - it was good - but service was eh, presentation was eh, and portions were a bit out of whack. (I'm "the friend" in this review.)

I'd like to check out that Salt Tasting Room, though. I recently went to (like, found!) the Shebeen, and it was such a great space. I think those Heathers are smart folks!

PS. Not to dis the enRoute folks too much, but did you read those jury comments?
