Could Robert Dziekanski's death lead to Taser ban?

It has brought shame on the entire country. Since its November 14 release, a video of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski being Tasered by RCMP at Vancouver’s international airport has been broadcast around the world.

Adding fuel to the fire, Canadian Press reported on November 22 that a Nova Scotia man had died while in custody, about 30 hours after he was shot with a stun gun. The unidentified 45-year-old man is the 18th person to die following a stun gun-related incident in Canada.

As a result, the use of stun guns by law enforcement officials in North America has come under intense scrutiny. Many have called for an outright ban on the weapon.

On November 20, ABC’s 2News reported that a Utah man was planning to sue the state’s Highway Patrol after being hit with a stun going for refusing to sign a ticket.

That story included a video of the incident, which clearly showed the alleged offender backing away from the officer when he was hit with the stun gun. Just as Robert Dziekanski was when RCMP fired on him at Vancouver International Airport.

Below is the video of the incident involving the Utah man.

Following are three more videos portraying incidents where citizens were hit with stun guns in situations where their actions could be interpreted as difficult, but where it's hard to see what threat they posed to police.
