When should antibiotics be used?

Have a persistent cold you can't shake and are wondering whether or not to resort to antibiotics?

Think it's better to buy antibacterial soap rather than regular soap?

Antibiotics are in a lot of products these days, but they may complicate things more than they actually help.

You may want to take a look at the Do Bugs Need Drugs? site, which is a community program designed to address how antibiotic resistance is becoming a problem due to the overuse of antibiotics.

Some of the information is also available in a variety of other languages, including Spanish, Punjabi, Chinese, and Vietnamese.

For more information about this program as well as antibiotics and handwashing, check out Martin Dunphy's Health Notes article from June 2005.

He also wrote a feature on mutant microbes in the same month.

I agree one hundred percent! I have found that many times I feel sicker then I used to when I was younger because of what antibiotics have done to my system. Funny how long term affects can overpower short term relief.
