No shortage of nude events

So you missed the World Naked Bike Ride—or it whetted your appetite for more. Never fear. The region is home to a summer calendar full of nudie events.

On July 13, build sandcastles in the buff at the 27th annual Wreck Beach Day (www.wreckbeach.org/ ). Then hike back on August 17 for the 12th annual Wreck Beach Bare Buns run. Stick around for the beach’s first annual Canadian Body Acceptance Day August 23. (Isn’t this every day at Wreck?) Or stake your claim at Crescent Rock Beach (www.crescentrockbeach.org/ ), the region’s other naturist shoreline, in White Rock. On July 6, International Nude Recreation Week kicks off with a mass mooning of the Amtrak passenger train at 10:30 a.m. in Surrey; Crescent Rock Beach Day follows.

The Van Tan Nudist Club (www.vantan.ca/ ) offers members a summer-solstice wine-and-cheese party and camp-over June 21 to 22; a Nude Olympics July 5 (watch out for Vanoc’s trademark police); and a bunch of soirees into the fall, including Oktoberfest—plus monthly indoor swim nights. The Fraser Valley Naturist Club (www.fvnc.ca/ ) organizes camp-outs, cruises, barn dances, and dinners. Surrey’s Skinnydipper Recreation Club (www.club.skinnydipper.ca/ ) invites members to dine together before swims at the Newton Wave Pool on the second Saturday of each month, from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Watch for the next nude bowling party at Lucky Strike Lanes in New Westminster. There’s also a nude cruise July 5.

For hard-core politicos, there’s the Western Canadian Association for Nude Recreation’s annual conference, at Vancouver Island’s Sol Sante Club from July 31 to August 4. (See www.wcanr.ca/.)

Or, for a relaxed anytime alternative, just drive your RV (or bike your tent) to Happy Campers Hideaway in Mission for naturist camping. Cuddle up to a fire or mingle in the farm’s hot tub (1-604-826-8891).

Viva the revolution.

Naturism is the great human equalizer. It's about accepting yourself and others for who you are and not what you look like, own, or wear. It's about de-stressing, relaxing, getting back to innocence. When I sit on my back deck in the morning or evening, contemplating my surroundings, I really feel close to God. I feel my batteries being recharged.
