U.S. army deserter Robin Long sentenced to 15 months
Robin Long, a U.S. army deserter who was deported from B.C. earlier this summer, has been sentenced to 15 months in a military prison. He will also be dishonourably discharged.
Long's lawyer, James Matthew Branum, revealed the sentence on his blog.
On July 15, Long was deported from Nelson, B.C. after Federal Court Justice Anne Mactavish ruled that he wouldn't face "irreparable harm" if he was sent back to the United States.
Bob Ages of the Vancouver chapter of the War Resisters Support Campaign told the Straight at the time that Long was denied due process.
Long fled to Canada in 2005 to avoid being sent to Iraq.
