Cashier With The Longest Lineups And The Most Friends

Carmen Louie at the busy Donald's Market on East Hastings Street really likes to get to know her customers. She's become so friendly with so many of them–4,500 and counting–that she has to study their names each night to keep them fresh in her mind. With Carmen, the check-out experience becomes catch-up with an old friend. "Do you know John"", she'll ask, pointing to the genial heckler behind you in line. "How's school?'", she'll ask. "Bom dia," she'll sing if you're an older Portuguese woman. Oh, that Carmen, she'll remind you that you're not an anonymous loaf in your own neighbourhood. She certainly isn't. Her lineups swell with friendly fans, each waiting for a chance to hear her magical name-calling.
