Results point to need for electoral reform: B.C. Green leader

A subdued Green party contingent watched as the unfolding election results showed they hadn’t won any seats, even as their popular vote increased dramatically.

About 150 supporters gathered at Performance Works on Granville Island, including local area candidates and B.C. Green leader Jane Sterk.

“This highlights the need for some kind of electoral reform,” Sterk said. She noted that the popular vote increase is good news, though it still means no seats for the party.

Longtime Green supporter Steve Kisby said, “Part of the dynamic in this election was the international banking system. Whenever something like that happens, it distracts people from the issues.”

Deputy leader Adriane Carr has begun speaking at the event. She failed to take out Liberal incumbent Hedy Fry in Vancouver Centre.
