Gordon Murray, a defendant in a lawsuit filed by CanWest MediaWorks, told a Vancouver Public Library  audience at Media Democracy Day that with the exception of the Georgia Straight, virtually no other media outlet is covering his case.

Murray acknowledged to the audience at the Vancouver Public Library today that he helped produce a parody of the Vancouver Sun in 2007.  CanWest MediaWorks is also suing his partner, illustrator Carel Moiseiwitsch, and retired college instructor Mordecai Briemberg, who has maintained that he was not involved in the production of the publication.  

The parody  highlighted the plight of Palestinians and the lack of attention they receive in CanWest publications, under satirical titles such as "Study Shows Truth Biased Against Israel".

Murray  wondered why  many alternative media, including the Tyee, an on-line publication, won't cover the story. Tyee editor David Beers responded that his publication will do something in the future on the story.

The Seriously Free Speech Committee, which is supporting the defendants, distributed a pamphlet at Media Democracy Day urging people to contact the following media outlets, and tell them that they expect them to cover all the news without fear or favour: Vancouver Sun, the Province, Vancouver Courier, 24 hours, Metro, Ming Pao, Sing Tao, World Journal, South Asian Post, Asian Pacific Post, the Link, Indo-Canadian Voice, CBC Radio, CBC Television, CKNW, News 1130, Channel M, Global TV, BC CTV, CityTV, Fairchild TV, National Post, Toronto Star, and Winnipeg Free Press.
