No plan to axe park-board general manager: Woodcock

In light of Judy Rogers's recent departure from the post of city manager, the park board's new vice chair said park-board general manager Susan Mundick's $197,505–a–year job is safe for now.

COPE commissioner Loretta Woodcock said that there is “not any intention” to replace Mundick.

“Let's just say it's not being actively pursued,” Woodcock told the Straight by phone.

Woodcock said she has always gotten along with Mundick, even during her last term in opposition, when Woodcock served on an NPA–dominated board.

Vision Vancouver commissioner Aaron Jasper told the Straight that his caucus is focusing its energy on its first-year priorities and a strategic plan.

“We've been asked by a lot of people if we're going to be going down that road,” Jasper said by phone. “At this point, we're not having that discussion.”

Two-term NPA commissioner and former board chair Ian Robertson said it would be “absolutely tragic” if Mundick were axed.

“I would fight that every step of the way,” Robertson told the Straight by phone, adding, “We need the solid guidance of someone like Sue.”
