It's March Madness right here in Vancouver

The 64th annual B.C. Boys AAA Provincial Championships are well underway at Vancouver’s PNE Agrodome.

Twenty high-school teams began the fierce battle for the title on March 10. The championship game will be held this Saturday (March 14), at 7:30 p.m.

Last year’s champions, the Yale Lions, came into the tournament ranked second in the Fraser Valley region.

Yesterday (March 11), they beat the Byrne Creek Bulldogs 82-55 with a massive 26 points by senior point guard Brad Kufske.

Second-place champions, White Rock Christian Academy Warriors (who took the top spot in the Fraser Valley this year) defeated underdog the Kelly Road Roadrunners 69-58.

Point guard Eli Mara scored 18 points, and senior guard Joel Schat sunk 19 more points for the team.

Now, both of 2008’s championship teams have a shot at making it to the semifinals this Friday (March 13), and possibly all the way to the championship game.

Tonight (March 12), find out who makes it to the semifinals as the Yale Lions take on the St. George’s Saints (3 p.m.), the Kitsilano Blue Demons take on the South Kamloops Titans (4:45 p.m.), the WRCA Warriors take on the R.C. Palmer Griffins (6:30 p.m.), the Centennial Centaurs take on the Vancouver College Fighting Irish (8:15 p.m.).

Tickets are available at the Agrodome box office or from Ticketmaster. All games will be webcast live.
