One Week, Watchmen top Canadian box office

On both the domestic and international films box office lists in Canada, two films debuted at the top spots for the week of March 6 to 12.

One Week, starring Joshua Jackson as a cancer patient who takes a cross-Canada road trip, knocked Polytechnique down from its four-week reign at number one on the Canadian top five movies list to number two.

The controversial Polytechnique, about the 1989 Montreal massacre of female engineering students, will open in Vancouver this Friday (March 20).

Gone from the top five are Stone of Destiny, by Vancouver-based director Charles Martin Smith, and Quebec's  Cadavres.

New to the top five were Je me souviens as well as One Week, which debuted at number one. One Week also appeared at number eight on the international box office list.

Predictably, Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen debuted at the top of the international releases in Canada, moving Slumdog Millionaire, riding its post-Oscar wave of attention, down to number two.

Also new to the international top 10 list was the Metropolitan Opera's Madama Butterfly Live. The Pink Panther 2 and The International slipped out of  the top 10.
