Cultural celebration coming to Vancouver’s Japantown on March 28

You can learn about the roots of Japanese Canadians while busting out your karaoke skills, desire for sushi, and admiration for anime in a March 28 celebration of arts and culture in Vancouver’s Japantown.

The Japantown Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration will be jam-packed with free cultural performances and events in various locations.

A history walk will start at 10 a.m. in Oppenheimer Park, and tell stories of growing up, working, and living in the neighbourhood. In the afternoon, there will be workshops and many presentations, including one by the Okinawan Children’s Choir.

An evening gala, at 6 p.m., filled with multicultural music and dance by local performers, will feature the First Nations a cappella trio M’Girl and a special dance performance by a mother and son duo straight from Tokyo at the Japanese Hall (487 Alexander Street).
