Late penalties a factor in Canucks' 4-2 loss; Hawks up 3-2 in series

A third-period high-sticking penalty by Kevin Bieksa cleared the way for the Chicago Blackhawks to defeat the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth game of their best-of-seven series.

Dave Bolland scored late in the game on the power play on a pass from Patrick Kane, giving the Hawks a late third-period lead. As the Canucks were trying to tie the game, Ryan Kesler took a holding penalty deep in the Hawks' end with less than four minutes remaining.

The Canucks successfully killed this penalty, but Martin Havlat later  scored a breakaway  empty-net goal to finish off the Canucks 4-2.

The teams will fly to Chicago for game six on Monday (May 11)  night. If the Canucks can tie the series, game seven will take place in Vancouver on Thursday (May 14).

Dustin Byfuglien scored two goals tonight for the Hawks; Kesler and Mats Sundin scored for the Canucks.

The Hawks outshot the Canucks 30-21.
