Vancouver city manager Penny Ballem linked to Ontario health scandal

The Globe and Mail has reported today that Penny Ballem was paid $30,000 for 78 hours work as a health consultant in Ontario.

The paper also reported that an eHealth employee expressed objections because no contract was signed.

Ballem, a former B.C. deputy health minister, was appointed as Vancouver's city manager in December by the new Vision Vancouver-controlled council.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Ballem said she was to lead Ontario's plan to manage diabetes, but pulled out when she was offered the city manager position in Vancouver.

Is this news? The equivalent of 10 days work at an average of $3,000/day is not unusual for this type of consulting. Some charge more and some charge less. It appears there is no malfeasance, no real issue here.

Many of us work very hard and give necessary service to society and still don't make $3000 in a month and we don't get expense accounts either. Is this FAIR?

Parker, even the best looking and classiest hookers don't make $3,000/day. I doubt that Penny is that good looking.
