Top movies in Canada, June 12-18: Quebec teen comedy on top

      Twenty-year-old filmmaker Xavier Dolan's J'ai tué ma mere was knocked out of the top spot by a Quebec teen comedy.

      í€ vos marques”¦Party! took top honours for domestic films at the Canadian box office from June 12 to 18. The sequel catches up with a young couple after graduation whose relationship is challenged when an old flame shows up during a swimming competition.

      Although J'ai tué ma mere, a drama about a gay teenager at odds with his mother, dropped to the number two position, it still managed to gross $136,722 from 15 theatres.

      í€ vos marques”¦Party!, in comparison, opened in 90 theatres, and grossed $167,342 in two days. The rom-com also grossed $214,285 during the June 19 weekend, and ranked at number 11 on the international June 19 weekend box office charts.

      Adoration popped back into the top five Canadian films, the documentaries Act of God and Waterlife (which is slated for a July 7 Vancouver release) sank but stayed in the top five, and Mothers&Daughters and the long-lasting Dédé, í  travers les brumes left the top five.

      We haven't received any notifications yet if it will be playing in Vancouver (not sure if it has a distributor yet). But we'll let you know if it does.
