Karmavore offers one-of-a-kind vegan-friendly goods

Got a craving for gelatin-free marshmallows? Karmavore Vegan Shop (468 East Columbia Street, New Westminster) carries two brands of the yummy confections, including Sweet & Sara ($8.99 for 8.5 ounces). Everything sold in the small store, from food to non-edible goods, is free of animal products. Many items on offer, including the soy-free Daiya cheese ($39 for five pounds), aren’t sold anywhere else in the Lower Mainland. You can shop in person or on-line at www.karmavore.ca/. Owner Sam Jamal told the Straight he opened Karmavore in July to “make it easier for people to adopt and maintain a vegan lifestyle”. Ten percent of profits go to animal-welfare organizations.

GF, egg and dairy free????

Oct 27, 2009 at 3:14pm

When is someone going to open up a bakery that's dairy, egg and gluten free?

Baby Cakes in NYC should open up a place in Vancouver.

Pane Rizo, Choices rice bakery and the Little Mountain brand all have some dairy and egg in their stuff.

This place looks amazing, a way more refined Vegan selection for some stuff than whole foods. Their Rice Parmesan contains casien! Deadly to some non-dairy people!!

Thanks to all for spreading the word and helping out the animals by shopping vegan!

Stop by our store on World Vegan Day, Sunday November 1st, and get 25% off select items, as well as a free animal rights button with every purchase!

I'm a loyal Karmavore customer and couldn't recommend the store more highly. They have a wonderful selection of compassionate, animal-friendly products including the vegan dog food my companion canine gobbles up. The staff are friendly and helpful both in-store and on the phone, and if you order items for shipping they arrive promptly and well packaged. I'm so glad that the Vancouver area finally has its very own vegan store!

I am not a vegan yet but trying to become vegetarian - this place helps make the choices more convenient.

I can honestly say that this store represents more than just a great place to eat and get good products. If you have had the pleasure to meet the owner, you would know he is one of the most kind hearted people on plant earth! He has been a vegan as long as I have ever known him and that's going on 23 yrs and we met in jr high.

He does not run this business for mega profits - frankly he could care less. He truly cares about lowering the impact around cruelty to animals, and this store represents the hard work of one man to raise awareness of the things most people want to turn a blind eye to, and give people a karma free choice to consume no evil!

If you want to feel good about the things you buy without having to do all the research walk in this store. You can trust this business to always do the right thing.

Long time friend and struggling vegetarian!

P.s the cheese burger is better than any meat cheese burger I have ever eaten!!!

One love SL DK & PL

They need to stock a greater variety of products. Last time I shopped there the shelves were bare. They should start by going to the local farmers markets and stock product like India Base. It's an amazing vegan Indian Simmer Sauce made locally.

I've never come across such a versatile product, please stock more products from up and coming innovators that care about what we are putting in our bodies!

thanks,
Lyla
