Photos & video: Woodward's W sign returns to Vancouver skyline

The iconic Woodward's sign has returned to Vancouver's skyline.

This morning (January 9), the red W was hoisted atop the Woodward's development in the Downtown Eastside.

It's not the same W that crowned the former Woodward's department store for many years, but a re-creation.

The new sign will be lit up on Friday (January 15) during an official unveiling ceremony.

The original W will be displayed in a glass case in the project's public plaza.

My grandfather, William Kenneth Caine, was "Chief Engineer" for "Woodwards Canada". To see the "W" shining over Vancouver, the store that grandad designed, is a honor. I am thrilled that this permanent landmark is something that people will associate with both Vancouver and the 2010 Olympics.
