I wouldn't call it "art", but it is a good way of making people wake up and be constantly reminded that something strange and exotic is going on in our city. The cool meaningless of the meandering lights is, I think, a fitting symbol of the dubious moral standing of the resurrected Olympics tradition. Disconnected from its roots in ancient Greek society, and expropriated by modern sports, corporatism, government and militarism, the modern Olympics are a kind of genetically engineered cultural orphan, wandering aimlessly around the world, disconnected from the real challenges and opportunities confronting humanity, engaging but not nurturing the populace in any relevant fashion, just like these constantly moving, mesmerizing, but ultimately unsatisfying and meaningless lights.
