The Astoria screens Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains

There’s a rare screening of Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stainson Saturday (February 13), as part of the Astoria’s “Fuck, I Love You” night. Georgia Straight Best Of champs B-Lines and Muscles also play at the Valentine’s Day party.

A feature film about an all-girl punk group, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains was decimated by critics and shelved after its 1982 release, but has since become a huge cult item. Aside from its astoundingly cynical take on the music industry, the movie is notable for a cast that includes Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, Paul Simonon of the Clash, and a 14-year-old Diane Lane as skunk-haired runaway Corinne Burns.

Most importantly, it was shot in and around Vancouver. Our hometown plays Everywhere, USA, but that doesn’t diminish the impact of seeing strung-out members of the Pistols trying to act their way out of the parking lot at the PNE.
