Hundreds of anti-Olympic protesters took to the streets of downtown Vancouver today (February 13) to "clog the arteries of capitalism", and were met with swarms of police in riot gear.

During the snake march, some protesters wrecked newspaper boxes, smashed windows, and got into violent confrontations. According to the Vancouver police, there were seven arrests.

However, the majority of the crowd peacefully chanted slogans like "No Games on stolen Native land"; "2010 homes, not 2010 Games"; "Whose streets? Our streets"; and "No justice, no peace, fuck the police".

Here are some scenes from the 2010 Heart Attack protest.

Interesting, lots of pictures of police and weapons, not a lot of pictures of protestors, the ones hiding faces or smashing windows or kicking cars or screaming at people. Balanced?

Peacefully chanting "fuck the police," you say? Hmm. You seem awfully sympathetic to these thugs.

They also threw a newspaper box through the window of the TD Canada Trust branch at Pacific Centre.

There's no sympathy for demonstrators that cannot communicate their position without willful acts of vandalism and non-peaceful protest. Plus, what's with the covered faces and the anonymity? Perhaps the protesters know that their intentions are less than honourable. They're not agents of social change, they're hoodlums.

Anyone who uses the word F*** to protest where children, the elderly and real ladies are preasent ARE NOT PEACEFULLY PROTESTING!!! Also if they are on the street not the sidewalk, unless there in the crosswalk, and not blocking traffic or law abiding citizens should be locked up!!!!

If these people are so committed to the protest why don't they show their faces? Exactly how much of their paychecks do they donate each week to help others? Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites that are too lazy to excel at anything. I'm embarrassed that these idiots call themselves Canadian

The support for this action by this paper is so obvious. Even going to the point of using the protesters' own declaration in their headline.

Protestors have all of my sympathy because ,no matter how much you communicate your positions as Emmy says; the chosen ones the duly elected don not listen. "Fuck the cops" is not very constructive I agree , but they do represent a system that has failed and continue to fail !
Elections do not change anything. I can understand that some peaple react to the injustices, while other just go along for the ride. There always seem that some people go to fast in the eyes of people going nowhere.

These rioters are lucky they are in Canada. Try doing the same in other countries (try Sochi, Russia in 2014) and they would have tasted water cannon, foam cannon, tear gases, various electroshock weapons, even rubber bullets.

Too bad Stephen, I was looking forward to some truncheon wielding knuckle draggers putting the boots to the window and property smashers. Would have made my day. I am certain however that the seal hunt is directly attributable to the Olympics so you should have thrown in a couple of large graphics of sealers clubbing the baby seals for good measure. Would have been more effective with the little children on the street too. Such pap.
