Writers Guild of Canada 2010 Screenwriting Awards nominees announced

The 2010 Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Award nominees were announced today.

148 scripts were narrowed down to 43 finalists in 11 categories, with 76 screenwriters nominated.

Winners will be announced in Toronto on April 19.

Among the nominees for feature film category are Lee MacDougall for High Life (which recently played in Vancouver), Des Walsh for Love and Savagery (which also just wrapped up its run in Vancouver), and Vic Sarin, Catherine Spear, and Dennis Foon for the B.C.–Ireland coproduction A Shine of Rainbows (which opened the 2009 Vancouver International Film Festival).

Corner Gas,  Flashpoint, and  Stargate Universe are among the nominated shows.

Less Than Kind, a  comedy-drama about a dysfunctional  Winnipeg family,  snapped up four out of five nominations for episodic half-hour. Meanwhile, CBC's  Being Erica only received one nomination for a Webisode.

CBC shows The Rick Mercer Report, The Ron James Show, and This Hour Has 22 Minutes swept the  variety show category.
