Canada wins Olympic men's hockey gold medal in overtime in Vancouver

Canada has won the gold medal in men's hockey at the Vancouver Olympics at Canada Hockey Place.

Canada defeated the U.S. 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Sidney Crosby on a neat pass from Jerome Iginla.

Corey Perry and Jonathan Toews were the two other goal scorers for Canada.

Ryan Kesler and Zach Parise scored for the Americans, with Parise's marker tying the game with less than 30 seconds left in the third period.

Straight staff writer and editor Brian Lynch will be filing a report at Straight.com as part of his regular Olympic Journal series. In addition, we'll feature a photo gallery from the game on the site.

Fantastic reporting Mr. Charlie Smith. One of the few reporters who wrote like it was Team Canada playing the game and not just Sidney Crosby. Crosby made a fantastic winning goal, but not by himself. Charlie, you should apply to write for AP, the guy they have Allan Robinson really sucks at it.

Awesome...the NHL won a gold medal in amateur sport. How 'bout we keep amateur sports for the amateurs?
