Cross-country skier Brian McKeever wins Canada’s first gold medal of Paralympics

      Brian McKeever has won Canada its first gold medal of Vancouver’s 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

      Today (March 15) at Whistler Paralympic Park, the 30-year-old cross-country skier from Canmore, Alberta, emerged victorious in the men’s 20-kilometre freestyle visually impaired event.

      With his guide and brother Robin, McKeever posted a time of 51 minutes and 14.7 seconds.

      Nikolay Polukhin of Russia took the silver medal.

      Vasili Shaptsiaboi of Belarus earned the bronze.

      McKeever's gold is Canada's fourth medal of the 2010 Paralympics.
