Photos: Vancouver antiracists protest no-show neo-Nazis at Braid Station

      The only swastikas at Braid Station today (March 21) had a red circle around them and a bar through them.

      About 200 antiracist protesters turned up in New Westminster on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in response to a white-pride rally that didn't materialize.

      After organizers declared victory, some of the activists jumped on the SkyTrain and gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

      do these people realize that the swastika (symbol and word) is of South Asian origin? Perhaps if they went up to the neo-retards and said "hey, you're an Aryan?...what part of South Asia/ Iran are you from?" They wouldnt have a leg to stand on. There needs to be some education on both sides

      I think it is wrong for white people to be proud of their pathetic history.

      maybe you need to be educated on the word 'appropriation'?

      And it wrong for any people to be too smug considering our collective sad, violent and racist history, Tom. Take a look in the historical mirror. Nobody gets a pass.

      tom lee: Such Tolerance! See you at the Sino Uber Alles march next week. Maybe we can hang out together and shoot some students on bikes or gun down some Tibetan nuns or starve 30 million people to death.

      Did this rally actually occur, or did the Anti-Racist Action kiddies make the whole thing up to get their pictures in the paper?

      @tom lee
      that's quite unenlightened of you. Why shouldn't anyone be proud of their culture? I was in the crowd protesting against the Nazis today, but I'm still proud of my English heritage! And why are people up voting such a blatantly ignorant and racist comment? What you said is COMPLETELY against the spirit of what the whole counter-demonstration is about. You should be ashamed of yourself.

      "Racism is not Tolerance" You need a sign to figure that one out?

      This whole 'rally' was a set up by Cassia and friends. Nice to see the Straight so completely used.

      Tom Lee, what color are you? I can guarantee you that if you aren't white (which you seem to be implying you aren't), your race has just as little to be proud about.

      What does that mean? No one should be proud of a skin color they just happened to be born as. Just like living in a country really doesn't mean you have any reason to be "proud" of that, unless you yourself personally helped shape it.

      And Sandhu, the sun-wheel is used in more than one area of the world, and isn't just of Asian origin.

      I have to say racist comments like Tom Lee's are the REAL problem today, not a few neo-nazis. I personally can't be responsible for what happened in the hands of another white person. I am an individual human, not apart of a collective called the white race. Every race has had it's wrong doings. I don't think you could point at any part of the world and not find bad people doing bad things all through history. We need to get beyond this now. We will all be better humans for it. Race hatred works both ways. Start fresh and look forward to a future where we all have mutual respect for each other. The world is too small for small thinking.

      What's wrong with everyone expressing their pride in their roots? White people came from somewhere too, ya know.
