Flamenco heat hits Vancouver

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Two big flamenco events this weekend promise to fire up your early summer. Karen Flamenco’s latest show has all the ingredients to cook up enough passion to blow the roof off the Norman Rothstein Theatre this Friday and Saturday (June 25 and 26). The dance troupe is using its own feisty art form to tell Shakespeare’s most achingly passionate tale: Romeo and Juliet (shown here). And get this: it’s all set in atmospheric turn-of-the-last-century Mexico, complete with seductive bandidas. You just know those family feuds are going to involve some floor-pummelling footwork. Meanwhile, Centro Flamenco will be fluttering skirts and stamping the stage in its 21st annual student show at the Playhouse on Saturday night (June 26).
