Théí¢tre la Seizií¨me unveils 2010-2011 season

Théí¢tre la Seizií¨me announced its 2010-2011 lineup today (June 29).

The only professional French-language theatre company in B.C. will present three plays for its mainstage season and two for its young audiences' season, which tours B.C. schools in the spring of 2011.

The mainstage will feature plays by award-winning playwrights Jean-Rock Gaudreault, Carole Fréchette, and George F. Walker. Gaudreault’s Une maison face au nord tells the story of a family growing up in Chicoutimi, Quebec, in front of a backdrop of larger societal issues surrounding the province, and Canada as a whole.

La peau d’í‰lisa by Fréchette is about a woman who confides in the audience with stories of secrets and past loves.

In Walker’s deceptively playful L’Enfant-probleme, two drug-addicted parents wait in a motel room to see if a social worker will declare them fit to take their daughter home from a foster family. It will be performed with English surtitles.

The theatre company’s young-audiences season consists of two plays: La chaise perdue by Louis-Dominique Lavigne and Luc LeBlanc and L’Hypocrite by Michael Gauthier. La chaise perdue follows a 12-year-old boy transported through a fantasy world that ultimately helps him cope with the recent loss of his grandfather. L’Hypocrite deals with the friendships and relationships of three teenagers.

Une maison face au nord begins the season in October. Three show subscriptions are $70 or $63 for students and seniors. For more information, contact 604-736-2616.
