Mount Sinabung close to the northern end of Sumatra started spewing lava this weekend, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.

According to a BBC report, it's the first time that this Indonesian volcano has erupted in 400 years.

The mountain is 60 kilometres southwest of Medan, which is the main city on Sumatra.
