Michael Ignatieff appoints Ujjal Dosanjh as Liberal health critic

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has shuffled his lineup of Opposition critics for the third time since replacing Stephane Dion as interim leader in December 2008.

Today (September 7), Vancouver South MP Ujjal Dosanjh's became the Liberal health critic. He was the federal health minister from 2004 to 2006 in the Paul Martin-led government.

In January 2009, all three Vancouver Liberal MPs, including Dosanjh, were left out of Ignatieff's shadow cabinet.

In October 2009, Dosanjh was made the defence critic and Vancouver Quadra MP Joyce Murray became the critic for amateur sport and the Vancouver Olympics.

Ingnatieff has never appointed the longest-serving Vancouver Liberal MP in the caucus, Hedy Fry, as an Opposition critic.

The only other Liberal MP in the Lower Mainland, Newton-North Delta's Sukh Dhaliwal, retained his critic's post for the Pacific Gateway and Western Economic Diversification.

Former finance minister Ralph Goodale has been named deputy leader and David McGuinty (brother of Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty) became Liberal house leader.

Scott Brison is the new finance critic. His predecessor, John McCallum, is now responsible for transport, infrastructure, and communities.

Gerard Kennedy is the new Liberal environment critic, replacing McGuinty.

Martha Hall Findlay stepped into the critic's position for international trade, replacing Brison.
