Ridiculousness on Commercial Drive: Walking your dog while cycling

Honestly, walking your dog while cycling seems ridiculous enough, what with the obvious problem of what happens if something comes between you and your dog while it's leashed and you're speeding down a street, what happens if your dog takes off after a squirrel, what happens if one of you starts moving faster than the other.

Trust someone on Commercial Drive to top this ridiculous practice. I'm talking about you, sir, riding your recumbent bicycle southbound today on Commercial, one of the most chaotic streets in the city, with your small dog, leashed and trotting along between you and the row of parked cars.

The likelihood of you and your dog being doored seems quite high, in that you're both travelling below drivers' line of sight. There's also the small issue of walking one's dog down the middle of the street, plus those mentioned above.

But I must salute you, sir, for being just one more ridiculous thing I've seen on the Drive.

I'm a cyclist and I hate dogs so of course I hate this!

As a proper leftist, I demand that the practice be banned, the human in question shamed and criminally charged, and separated lanes be built for household pets at a cost no less than $500 000.

There is something intensely defective with anyone who hates dogs.

Why don't they make one lane totally: bike/dog/bus/taxi,and then give part of the sidewalk to the businesses that lose their parking....take back the streets, we are lost in our cars.

Dogs are not able to stop and pee, crap, or catch their breath when their owner is cycling, so it's cruel as well as stupid. And speaking of that, if I see that Commercial Drive Gwen Stefani-wannabe yanking her chihuahua's leash one more time to hurry it up, I'm going to jump out of my car, put the leash on that chick, and see how she likes to be yanked around. I despair that the dog, who was walking as fast as its tiny legs could carry it across the road, has to go home and live with that monster. The wee dog was looking up at its owner in terror, desperate to please and looking alarmed that it had failed. Ever think of lovingly picking up your dog, lady, and toting it across the street?

I don't get it. People who don't own dogs needing to voice their opinion about something they know nothing about. How about you take my half husky half springball dog for a run. Let's see how long you last. Biking with my dog is not just convinient and safe, it's a necessity for keeping her in shape. Dogs can't stop to catch their breath you say? I am fully aware of what she can do and the second she slows down I do too. How about kids? How about banning holding their hands cause poor little things can't stop to catch their breath? Ridicule you bet!
