BMX and mountain bikers finally have a bike park in Vancouver to call their own.

On Saturday (October 2) at 11 a.m., the city’s first bike park, located in Kitsilano's Vanier Park near the Burrard Civic Marina and Burrard Bridge, will officially open.

The ceremony will feature a ribbon-cutting, cake, and bike demonstrations.

Built by Earth Ramp Bike Parks, the bike park was completed in the past month and is already in use.

It includes beginner, intermediate, and expert tracks, as well as a pump track that is expected to be expanded in the future and a spectator area with a concrete couch.

According to the park board’s website, users are asked to “respect the dirt jumps by not riding when they are overly wet, spraying them down when they are dry and dusty, and grooming them when they are worn down”.

The park board approved the bike park in September 2009.

The city already has seven skate parks, none of which were designed to be used by bikers.
