Former B.C. finance minister and broadcast journalist Carole Taylor has been selected as the next chancellor of Simon Fraser University.

Taylor, who has served in numerous executive roles and is an Officer of the Order of Canada, is set to replace current SFU chancellor Brandt Louie in June 2011.

“Carole Taylor is known across Canada as a leader who embraces change, and who challenges us to think creatively about the major issues of the day,” SFU president Andrew Petter says in a news release.

“SFU is fortunate to have attracted a person of such vast experience and so profound an understanding of the value of higher education,” Petter says.

Taylor is slated to serve a three-year term as chancellor for the university, which has campuses in Burnaby, Surrey and downtown Vancouver.

“I look forward to working with Andrew Petter and all the faculty, students, alumni and staff at SFU with that goal in mind: what kind of Canada do we want? And what is SFU’s role in that particular future?” Taylor says in the release.

Well now, finally we've got something positive moving in the right direction.

I have a vision for my ZEUS polls working with Simon Fraser University which could in totality create an enormously successfuly collaboration.

This announcement is certainly an excellent beginning as far as I consider it to be.

I am a student at SFU. I can't think of a worse person to fill this vaccuum that a BC Liberal oversaw the hikes in tuition fees.

I am a graduate of SFU and also have been in a meeting with Ms Taylor when she was a cabinet member in this failed liberal government who did nothing to keep student tuition down and in fact hiked them.
Who make these decisions at SFU. SFU needs to elect its chancellor and if that was the case Carole would not win, especially if students voted.
This women is the worse person to become the Chancellor SFU.
What a mistake. One might ask is this woman serious bout any career or is she merely interested in building her CV.
      Whatever. God Save SFU
