Six food and dining events

Fresh Through the Winter
If you’re already missing your local farmers market, take heart: the Winter Farmers Market is operating weekly this year throughout the chilly season. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until the end of April in a new location: the east parking lot of Nat Bailey Stadium (4601 Ontario Street at East 30th Avenue).

Embraceable Yew
Qualicum Bay scallops star in November’s $35 three-course, locally sourced prix fixe menu at YEW restaurant + bar (791 West Georgia Street, in the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver). Choices include a caramelized diver scallop with roasted Pemberton sunchokes for an appetizer, seared jumbo scallop with Fraser Valley heirloom pumpkin risotto as a main, and a citrus crí¨me pastry for dessert. Not a seafood fan? The December three-course menu features local venison and apples.

Veg for a Day
Every Tuesday is Meatless Mardi at Provence restaurants (1177 Marinaside Crescent and 4473 West 10th Avenue). Both are offering a changing three-course table d’hí´te ($25) with optional two-ounce wine pairings for $15. The menu for November 16 features an asparagus, Portobello mushroom, and pepper salad to start; brown rice tabbouleh as a main; and a pecan tart with soy ice cream to end.

Curry in a Hurry
Newbie Rasoee Indian Kitchen (320 Robson Street) is a looker. While take-away and delivery (to Yaletown and downtown) are touted, stylish cushioned banquettes invite dining in. Dishes range from signature Rasoee Classic Curry (beef, chicken, or vegetarian) to chicken tikka wraps, tandoori chicken salad, vegetable samosas, and more ($1.79 to $8.49).

Cafe a Gogo
West Enders, downtown worker bees, and shoppers can kick-start their mornings with a java jolt at the Corner Suite Bistro De Luxe (850 Thurlow Street) from 7 to 10 a.m. In a rush? Grab a seat at the bar so you can watch the state-of-the-art Venus Century espresso machine in action, and get coffee and a fresh-baked croissant or a pain au chocolat to stay or go. Lunch (served 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)—a daily soup and sandwich, or a sandwich and a beer—is an easy $10.

Mangia, Mangia
If you love Italian food, get ready to dive into Dine Italia, a celebration of Italian food and wine that’s back for a fifth year, running from November 8 to 20. Lombardo’s, Poor Italian, CinCin, Cioppino’s, Q4, and others are offering $20 to $65 three- or four-course prix fixes. Visit www.dineitalia.com for participating restaurants and menus.
