Carole James resorts to online petition in bid to hold on to B.C. NDP leadership

Carole James is seeking support through an online petition in her bid to hold on to the leadership of the B.C. NDP in the face of a caucus revolt.

The petition page on the party website displays James's signature above the words: "New Democrats are standing united.

"Please join with me and your fellow New Democrats for a united party: add your name to the list."

At time of writing (4:39 p.m.), 2,103 people had "already joined with Carole James for a united party".

The party is slated to hold an emergency caucus meeting on Sunday (December 5).

On Thursday (December 2), James told reporters, “Every MLA will be held accountable for their behaviour.”

That press conference came a day after long-time NDP MLA Jenny Kwan unleashed a scathing critique of her leadership.

Update: As of Saturday (December 4) at 10:25 a.m., the petition had 2,247 signatures.

Carol James and the NDP are throwing seats away. The leader is leading them to their doom. The leader needs to unite the party not throw 13 MLAs into the dust bin. MLAs represent the voters not the party stooges. Its the number of seats that determines everything. You can not discard them!

this reeks of the same desperation as the yellow scarf variety, dreamed up by Carole's handlers. Every online poll I have come across says the same thing - time for the NDP to turf Carole, she will never be premier

People are encouraging BC Liberal supporters to sign this petition. That is a sign that a a real leader is needed for the NDP.

I have said from day one that the NDP will never form a government with Carole James as leader...not that Carole is incapable but she has no political charisma..she comes across like a wet noodle in all her 'tough" speechesand she has fallen into the union web in order to bolster that "lets be tough" attitude...i did not know about Moe Sihota and the Union pay roll but if Carole wants to stay as leader she needs to dump Moe, Jim and be the leader she says she is..this is what jenny + 12 are saying..the party was about the party and not about Moe and his union sidekicks and oh yeh his other sidekick...Carole james...Carole..if u can't tell those guys to go away..be the leader and lead..thenJenny is right..tiome to go

Personally I'll vote NDP no matter who leads it. But it's a shame when the lack of a zippy image seems to be so important with the mass of voters. Are they voting for government or a circus?

Just hold a leadership convention (sooner the better) and live with the out come one way or another and it's settled once and for all. Win or lose I beleive it's the best for all that support the party.

This party is in such chaos and they want to run the province.? James is not a leader and needs to bail. This is so typical of NDP internal politics. A party of union types and white wine socialists will never be cohesive.
