Raekwon serves up a wicked batch of beats on “Butter Knives”

Most people will tell you of their unforgettable first love—that special someone that they judge all others by. For us it’s not a person, it’s a gang.

The Wu-Tang Clan made us fall instantly in love when it released Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. When the individual MCs of that collective branched out into solo careers, died, or did deodorant commercials, our hearts nearly broke. But time has healed our wounds, mostly thanks to solo acts like Raekwon, who have kept the samurai style alive.

On his new track “Butter Knives”, the man known to his doctor as Corey Woods and his fans as the Chef serves up a wicked batch of beats leaving high hopes for his latest Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang which hits shelves in March 2011. In addition to the minor-key samples and deep pounding bass roll rolling behind Raekwon’s fast-flowing lyrics, the song also features kung fu film sound clips to bring us back to the good old Wu-Tang days. If the new album is half as sharp as “Butter Knives”, then it’s going to be a clear-cut classic.
