Marijuana activist Dana Larsen set to announce B.C. NDP leadership plans

A former leader of the B.C. Marijuana Party could become the first person to formally enter the race for the leadership of the B.C. New Democratic Party.

Dana Larsen has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday (December 29) at 10:15 a.m. in downtown Vancouver.

"This province needs leadership that respects and listens to the community and that makes sustainable decisions based on evidence, not ideology," Larsen said in a press release today (December 28). "The BC NDP must be the party of ideas, not simply opposition."

Earlier this month, Larsen told the Straight he supports the legalization of marijuana, a $10 minimum wage, the rolling back of the HST, and a provincial police force.

In 2008, Larsen resigned as the federal NDP candidate for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country after video footage showing him high on drugs sparked controversy.

B.C. NDP members will elect their party's new leader on April 17, 2011.

And Stumpy the Clown will be the last to announce
but like larsen..... neither of them will win or even place

I wish him well all the same as some one should say what he says

Sadly I know the now done party will just again sabotage any support he may get because larsen doesn't understand the ndp's golden rules

The man with the gold rules
And they think he also used to be leader of the LSD Party of BC
(sure seems to be a lot of ex leaders of the bc marijuana party around and them not even really existing any more and only were in two elections but hey...what ever))

No I can not see much excitement about this announcement

Now if Mr Kirk Tousaw.... one of the other 2 founding members of NDProhibition.ca ( myself the third) were to put his name forward well I would be excited and do my best to help.

Its too bad the ndp and all the rest of the main stream parties are just too afraid of the cannabis issue even if it is the biggest industry in BC....because we all know all the crime and violence is a direct consequence of their cowardice

Politicians for the continued prohibition of cannabis in BC
are also politicians FOR ORGANIZED CRIME in BC !!

And anyone who doesn't see it that way is crazy ... ignorant...and has their head in the sand

Not a very smart decision. Lots of dirt to be dug. And what's with the bragging on his Seed Bank website and YouTube about what's technically still illegal? Tsk tsk. Perhaps he'll be smart enough to suppress what he's done for years. Good luck...

No, Prohibition is too dear to the the authoritarians who flock to the police services. The ability to claim they pulled someone over, stopped and searched someone on the street, or bust into someone's house by claiming they "thought" they smelled pot smoke, or "thought" they saw someone passing a joint (though they know it was only a cigarette) gives them far more practical ability to make the lives of non-conforming hippies, brown-skinned immigrants, campy drag-queens, or whoever else their conservative ethics tells them is their moral and professional duty to make miserable for being "that way".
That...and the police associations & fraternities (unions actually, but they hate that pinko-sounding term) know prohibition is the bread and butter issue promising job security and a never-ending "crime" issue they can haul out every few years around contract renegotiation time. Much like the "war on terror" keeps the US military complex from having to scale down due the end of the Cold War, the "war on drugs" serves the police-prison industry by assuring they will never have to worry about the radical drop in crime that followed the Repeal of Alcohol Prohibition. "Lesson learned. Screw the public by ensuring the continued existence of black-market drug gangs 'cuz otherwise they'll screw us of our jobs (again) by repealing Prohibition 2 (again)."

Who's the criminal here, eh ? Sick bast***ds.

Dana is too honest to be in politics. I don't think you could find any dirt on this guy that he has not already admitted too on his own freewill. What a refreshing thought,.... and is this not what the run for leadership is about fresh outlooks? You have my support DANA.
