Peter Legge, Bob Rennie boost Christy Clark campaign for B.C. Liberal leadership

A few high-profile supporters came out on Wednesday night (January 5) to help Christy Clark rally her troops for the B.C. Liberal leadership race.

Magazine publisher Peter Legge and condo marketer Bob Rennie joined former news anchor Pamela Martin at Clark’s campaign kick-off rally at the Vancouver Italian Cultural Centre.

Around a couple hundred people showed up and were encouraged to sign up as many new B.C. Liberal Party members as possible ahead of the February 4 deadline.

Legge—the chair and CEO of Canada Wide Media, which publishes BCBusiness and GardenWise—praised Clark for recently visiting his company’s offices and speaking to his staff.

They were even able to sign up some new party members, Legge said.

Rennie, founder of Rennie Marketing Systems, told the crowd that Gordon Campbell was a great premier, but that the province needs a new leader for today’s economy.

According to Rennie, there is “no alternative” to Clark.

Martin noted that she was a journalist until “10 days ago”.

Now that she is no longer in the news media, Martin said she is free to endorse her friend Clark, serve her campaign as its membership chair, and get involved in the political process.

Clark joked that Martin was there to make her “look fat”, before telling supporters that her campaign’s success will depend on them enlisting new party members.

The B.C. Liberals will pick their new leader—and the province’s next premier—on February 26.

So what? Rennie has already said he's financing her -- so this isn't news. What is Peter Legge going to do to help her - other than give her money or pay for people to show up at a PR meeting - like he does for his own---?

Christy hasn't got a seat in the Legislature - she hasn't got any backing from BC Liberal Cabinet Ministers - and just dissed them all except Mike de Jong (already DOA) - and trying to reach out to backbenchers -, AND if none of these come out and endorse her - she is twisting in the wind - dead as a dog - with a past due date news announcer, a condo sales man (and who knows what else) who is seeking concessions of Olympic condo sales from the City of Vancouver and Gregor Robertson - and Peter Legge - this is politics - honestly who gives a shit?

If Clark doesn't receive any support from BC Liberal backbenchers - she's done. Even if she raised a pile of memberships - and somehow won -- what does she do - arrive at caucus with zero support - from sitting BC Liberal MLA's - and tell them they are heading for election - she'll ruin the Jimmy Choo's her friends bought her from the pool of urine under her feet.

In big league politics (not BC single A politics) - in a leadership race - if you can't trot out endorsements that matter - and these might be nice people - or rich people - but their endorsements don't mean anything politically -- Zero - in fact - the fact that they have come out - tells me her leadership aspirations are going in the crapper fast - because we know Christy's people are pounding the phone to remaining backbenchers---so if no elected BC Liberals come out in 7 days - Christy will follow de facto Mike de Jong down the ceramic bowl - to the end of days.

she can't get public officials to endorse her so she's getting news reporters and real estate agents supporting her?

How are the Athlete's Village sales going Rennie. Here's the guy who took out full page ads during the Vancouver Olympic Plebiscite and for his support he didn't get a senate job but he eventually got the contract to sell all the units of the now bankrupt Millenium "athletes village" project. Hopefully the City of Vancouver rescinded his contract.

Well here we go again - the same old faces propping up a sick government and now supporting another Campbell Clone - when is this province to grow up and start brining in (and supporting) a more politically sophisticated group of leaders rather then the the developer, media and Fraser Institute endorsed candidates. Do we need more of the same?

These endorsements aren't much more impressive than the ones that our man Dana got form Chong and Emory.

I used to work at a Rennie office in the 90's. Nice guy but his loyalty is misplaced. He's forgotten from whence he came and will soon be on his way back if this bid fails. Don't break a leg Bob. As for Peter Legge, so what. Same old, same old.

Will somebody ask Palin this question please, “Eric Bornmann, one of your political students (and friend) of years past, suggested that your brother Bruce bribed Dave Basi. Why will you not call for a full public inquiry to show that one of your biggest supporters, your brother, is not a briber of public officials? Don’t you think the public deserve to know?”. I bet this won's see the light of day.

what ever....i just cant wait to sit down with some popcorn to watch Christy have to answer questions about BC Rail.

Rennie is a real estate agent. Nothing against them, I have just never met one that actually "sold" anything. They sit on inventory and reduce price until they sell. You ever met anyone who actually made a buying decision because a realtor holding the listing "sold them" into it?

Again what does his endorsement mean? Amount to?

Petter Legg is a publisher and good public speaker, but what does that and his endorsement amount to?

I was at the Christy Clark event last night. Peter Legge, chair and CEO of Canada Wide Media, noted that when Christy was in office she always took his calls or promptly called back. Also, he noted she wasn’t always able to do what was being asked but would explain why [paraphrasing here]. Granted that Legge may be a personal/professional acquaintance but what was he doing calling her directly and over what matters? Was he registered as a lobbyist? Did Clark offer similar access to others while in office?

Bob is a nice guy, but, very misguided to be financially supporting someone who doesn't have a chance in hell of winning the nomination vote. Christy comes with too much baggage from being a water-carrier for the Campbell government. She should have kept her day job.
