Liberal leadership hopeful Christy Clark proposes Family Day holiday in B.C.
Christy Clark has proposed establishing a Family Day holiday as she campaigns for the B.C. Liberal party leadership.
The former deputy premier announced the idea today (January 10), suggesting the holiday should fall on the third Monday of February.
Clark noted in a news release there are no statutory holidays in B.C. between New Year’s and Easter.
She said families and workers could benefit from some extra time off during the winter, but acknowledged concern from businesses about the proposal.
Family Day is already in place during February in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
On December 8, Clark officially declared her candidacy, saying she would focus on a families-first agenda.
Clark and five other candidates are competing to replace Premier Gordon Campbell. The Liberal party leadership vote takes place February 26.

Instead of announcing holidays, how about some ideas from Ms. Clark on how to get the high percentage of British Columbians who are unemployed or underemployed back into full-time jobs that pay a living wage?

Jay, if it's okay with you that I make back-room deals on your dollar to benefit me, my family and friends I'll give you this ice cream cone.
Lady it's...2011.
Show a little respect for us BC citizens or get out of politics altogether.
We're in the market for "true" leadership.

grand idea Ms Clark,
time for the lurching to thunder to their soap stands and rally against the thought as they slide into the morass of self loathing that is the NDpee on their pant leg

Jay Jones has it -- it's difficult to be a reasonably intelligent person -- witnessing someone who most know -- has no ideas--- and may not fully understand other people's ideas --- man - Christy Clark is way over her head---------------------honestly trying to sell a woman with 6/10 'beauty' and no sense of creativity - I mean the brains in her family if there were any - before it blew up-------- was her husband;
no disrespect to single families - but Christy doesn't represent families - she might represent single moms----------we haven't had a true family person in office since Glen Clark in 1996.
Christy cares about Christy - not families.

After gutting education during her time in the BC government, she's now interested in the wellbeing of families? Touching.

Glen just so you know glen clark was for himself and anybody that could further himself. I personally don't think Christy has the right stuff to be premier, but the vote will tell. I think which ever party jumps on the promise of bike lanes will win this election.

Just got an email from my aids Bart Van Schuteanuse and Shane "Little Abe" Holimane about the holiday.
They suggest a BC First - and its a better idea than Christy's is -- a second statutory day off following BC Day - BC parades - and no PST on any purchases. We promote the hell out of our days----------including summer in Whistler for instance (my favourite) or beautiful Salmon Arm - Interior. Let British Columbians and tourists know that this is when we celebrate our distinct ------ society and let all others enjoy it too.
This is a much better idea than Christy's imo (what do you expect//its original) - thanks------------------ to Bart and Shane.

4 - NDP - I understand your point, however the context was Family Day - and I was saying - we don't know that Christy can run a family - insofar as family with mother, father and child(ren) is normafied (though I call by 'club' associates family - and none look like me). I am pretty sure - most British Columbians have speculated about Gordon Campbell's "Family" ------------ but we know that Glen Clark's family was normal --- so it would be nice to see if Kevin Falcon with that beautiful new baby of his -- or George Abbott or Moira Stilwell support Christy Clark's February holiday---when everyone and business works hard with a view to rest at Easter-------(the reward);
OR they support Glen P.'s BC First 2- that's right 2 stat days off on BC Day -- with parties and parades --- culture and celebrations attracting millions of dollars in extra revenues to the province ------ many families with their holiday time off to add to the celebrations -- kind of how the Olympics felt --------- only its our summer time.
Which will George, Kevin, Moira and/or Mike support?----------
Christy 'no knew ideas' Clark------- OR
Glen P Robbins---------------------------------------mark your ballot.
