UBC Film Production Program's first Multicultural Artist in Residence: Lorne Cardinal

The UBC Film Production Program has named actor and director Lorne Cardinal as the inaugural Phil Lind Multicultural Artist in Residence.

In March, Cardinal will meet with students, give a public lecture, and teach a master class for Vancouver film students.

Cardinal starred on the TV series Corner Gas, Wapos Bay, and North of 60, TV movies like Elijah, and in films such as Rust and Flicka 2. He has also hosted the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards, Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards 2006, National Aboriginal Day, and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. He has also directed episodes of Renegadepress.com, Moccasin Flats, and Rabbit Falls.

Cardinal will also serve as a consultant on a Film Production Program course, taught by Rogers Teaching Fellow Dwayne Beaver, focusing on First Nations subjects.

Beaver directed the 2001 hockey film The Rhino Brothers and TV series such as Robson Arms, Moccasin Flats, Road Hockey Rumble, and Glutton For Punishment. His animation work includes War Planets, Aaagh! It's the Mr. Hell Show!, and Shadow Raiders. He is currently an adjunct professor at the Capilano University Indigenous Independent Filmmakers Program.
