Does Ken Lum’s personality infuse his art?

Thank you for the interesting article on Ken Lum [“Straddling the great divide”, February 3-10]. It is compelling how an individual could forge a successful career by making art devoid of the things most artists consider indispensable: energy, colour, rhythm, playfulness, and joy. After hearing Mr. Lum deliver a lecture on his work, I have no doubt that he is expressing his personality in sculptural form.
