Dropkick Murphys add East Vancouver's Milan Lucic to the team

There’s no shortage of reasons to love Boston’s Dropkick Murphys, starting with the way the band’s live shows are designed to ensure you spend the next morning puking your guts out. If anthems like “Good Rats” and “The Dirty Glass” don’t make you want to chase a mickey of Bushmills with a half-sack of Guinness, then you’ve clearly been brainwashed by those killjoys at Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Dropkicks aren’t just about getting hammered and having a party though, even though you’d never know that from the video for their new single, “Going Out in Style”. In 2005, Boston’s finest donated profits from its single, “Last Letter Home”, to the family of fallen Iraqi soldier (and major fan) Sgt. Andrew Farrar. The group has its own charity, the Claddagh Fund, which is devoted to helping out less-fortunate families in its hometown. And, most recently, it aligned itself with embattled union workers in Madison, Wisconsin, coming out in support of their battle with the government with the song “Take ”˜Em Down”.

All fine and dandy, you might think, but why should we love the Dropkicks up here in Vancouver? That one’s easy. When singer-bassist Ken Casey and co. filmed the “Going Out in Style” clip, they decided to call in some friends. Popping up at the end of the video is Boston Bruin Milan Lucic, an East Van boy who, even though he’s still at the beginning of his NHL career, is already well on his way to becoming an NHL legend. In the clip below, you’ll see Lucic helping belt out the chorus (and take a snowball in the head) at the 3:50 mark.

Trainspotters will also want to watch for Mickey Ward (subject of the Mark Wahlberg biopic The Fighter), Bobby Orr, Boston Bruin Shawn Thornton, and Boston Red Sox slugger Kevin Youkillis.

Sit back, pour a pint, and get ready to get revved up. If you can get through the end of “Going Out in Style” without wanting to smash the furniture and crash the nearest wake, you obviously aren’t drunk enough.

There would be no DKM if it wasn't for those killjoys at AA. Pay attention to a lot of their songs & you'll realize they are not about drinking but getting sober.

The blonde next to Thornton is Red Sox analyst Heidi Watney - not a great player, but a pretty good baseball commentator.

The guy sliding down the fire pole is Lenny Clark from Rescue Me and the one with the spiked blue hair is Fat Mike from the band NOFX.
