Sarah McLachlan is one of 10 people set to receive honorary degrees this year from Simon Fraser University.

The Grammy- and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter will get her degree during the university’s spring convocation ceremonies, which will take place from June 14 to 17 at the Burnaby campus.

George Cohon, the founder of McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited; Pavel Pevzner, a bioinformatics pioneer; Ray Spaxman, Vancouver’s director of planning from 1973 to 1989; Robert Thirsk, a Canadian astronaut; and Brian Williams, a sportscaster, will also be honoured during spring convocation.

Four people will receive honorary degrees during fall convocation ceremonies on October 6 and 7.

Those recipients will be William Deverell, a crime novelist; Ian Hampton, a cellist and the Langley Community Music School’s artistic director emeritus; C.S. “Buzz” Holling, the ecologist who introduced the concept of resilience in ecological systems; and Wendy Grant-John, a former Musqueam Nation chief and the first woman to be elected a regional chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
