Second East Van Tweetup hits Our Town Café tonight

To hear mile-a-minute East Van lover Ajay Puri tell it, you don’t have to be in East Vancouver or on Twitter to make it to the second East Van Tweetup tonight (March 23), but it helps.

“I’ve had friends tell me, ”˜I’m not on Twitter, so I can’t come,’” Puri told the Straight by phone today. “But I tell them that’s not the point of it, that they don’t have to be in order to attend this.”

Starting at 7 p.m. at Our Town Café (245 East Broadway), the free event will feature a number of speakers from the arts and social media worlds, Puri said. One speaker is social-media-marketing trainer Shane Gibson.

Puri stressed that this isn’t a Twitter-friendly geekswinging contest.

“It’s a way of getting people together who haven’t been able to meet together or get people together who live in the neighbourhood in East Vancouver, to come together and have some drinks and hang out,” Puri said.

The first tweetup happened in February at the Main Street Legion, and was a success, according to Puri. Now he’s looking forward to tonight, and asks people to trend the love at #eastvanlove.

“This one, the volume two, is like Pecha Kucha meets networking event meets East Vancouver,” Puri added.
