Treat your four-legged friend to some haute couture, fresh from Europe, at Barking Babies' spring fashion show, taking place on Saturday (March 26) at 4 p.m. The Yaletown boutique (1188 Homer Street) for chic canines and their owners stocks everything from clothes and accessories, to carriers, grooming tools, bedding, and toys.

"We're going to launch all of our new spring lines," owner and self-professed "Alpha Dog" Nancy Jelenic told the Straight. "I have an exclusive line coming from Milan, Italy, which is crazy over the top. Then, we're also doing another segment that's all about rock 'n' roll."

The line from Milan is called For Pets Only and features cashmere, silk, crystals, and Italian leather. Another luxe item that's perfect for spring—bicycle baskets made of wicker and silk. For princessy pups, new tutus made for small to mid-sized pets are in stock, while dapper dogs can dress up in one-of-a-kind, handmade ties. If your furry friend's style is a little more rock 'n' roll, there's also an assortment of band T-shirts to choose from.

The two-hour event will feature a red carpet, free champagne, and a raffle, which includes prizes such as a custom-painted portrait of your pet, natural teeth cleaning for your dog, and gift certificates to Barking Babies and its neighbour, The New Oxford Public House (1144 Homer Street).

"Really it's just a great way for people to come and have their dogs socialize," says Jelenic.
